Single Origin Coffee

For many years, coffee has sat behind the curtain of mass production. Likely your first interaction with it began at the glass jar, where inside you'd discover mass-produced coffee that has been dried and tampered with to the point that the flavour is all but vanished. Like Whiskey, wine and even chocolate, coffee has a baseline, a benchmark of perfection where you know if you order it, you're getting the best. Single-origin coffee comes from one farm, from one lot and is never mixed. Sure, it's hard to source and, of course, more expensive, but what you're getting are the best beans on the open market.

FAQ Frequently Asked Questions

What is single origin coffee?

Single origin coffee comes from one specific region, farm, or cooperative. It allows you to taste the character of that place, shaped by soil, altitude, and climate. Every origin has its own personality, and that is what makes it worth exploring.

Where do you source your coffee beans?

We source our coffee from respected growing regions around the world, working with suppliers who value quality, sustainability, and long term relationships with farmers.

We are always searching for coffees that stand out. If it is not memorable, it does not make it into our range.

Do you roast the coffee yourselves?

Yes. Every batch is roasted in house in small quantities. This gives us full control over flavour and consistency, and ensures your coffee is as fresh as possible when it reaches you.

How fresh is your coffee when it arrives?

We roast to order and aim to dispatch within 24 hours. Your coffee arrives within its peak window, where aroma and flavour are at their best.

What roast levels do you offer?

We offer a range of roast levels from light through to dark. Each one brings out different characteristics in the bean.

Lighter roasts highlight brightness and fruit. Medium roasts bring balance and sweetness. Darker roasts offer depth and richness.

Which coffee should I start with?

If you are unsure, start with something balanced and easy to enjoy. A medium roast is often the best place to begin, with notes of chocolate and nuts that suit most brewing methods.

If you already know what you like, follow that instinct. If you are still unsure, get in touch and we will point you in the right direction.

Can you grind the coffee for me?

Yes. You can choose your grind size when ordering, whether you use a cafetière, filter, espresso machine, or something else.

If you have a grinder at home, whole beans will always give you the best result.

How should I store my coffee?

Keep your coffee in an airtight container, away from light and heat. A cupboard is ideal.

Avoid the fridge or freezer, as moisture will damage the flavour.

Why does coffee from the same region taste different?

Coffee is influenced by many factors including altitude, soil, processing method, and harvest conditions.

Two coffees from the same country can taste completely different. That is part of what makes it interesting.

Do you offer organic or fair trade coffee?

We offer coffees that meet organic and fair trade standards where available. We also work with suppliers who focus on responsible sourcing and fair practices.

Do you offer free delivery?

Yes. We offer free UK delivery on all orders over £30 and a free local drop-off service to any address in West Oxfordshire.

How long does delivery take?

Orders are usually roasted and dispatched within 24 hours. Delivery typically takes between one and three working days. For our free local drop-off service, we aim to deliver every Sunday.

Can I set up a subscription?

Yes. You can subscribe to receive coffee at a frequency that suits you.

You can pause, skip, or cancel at any time. There is no commitment.

Can I buy your coffee for my café or business?

Yes. We work with cafés, offices, and other businesses. If you are interested in wholesale, get in touch and we will talk through what you need.

What makes your coffee different?

We are not trying to offer everything. We are trying to offer the right things.

We look for coffees that are worth remembering. Coffees you come back to. Coffees that stand out without needing explanation.

That search is what Last Unicorn is built on.

What if there is a problem with my order?

If something is not right, let us know. We will sort it.

Can I visit your roastery?

We do not offer regular visits, this is because I roast your coffee at my home, and currently do not have a premises.
